
... I have been using this model (550Bxxx) stove as my primary stove for canoe and kayak wilderness trips for several years. I have tried other stoves and all have some faults: they are messy (carbon black), use a priming step, and don't simmer well or at all. Upon examining my "spare" stoves, I found the Apex II hose leaked and replacement parts were expensive. I decided to purchase this stove to be my working spare/primary with hopes that it would be like the older version. I was not disappointed! It starts instantly (even in cold weather) and simmers well just like the older model that I use. It is a mystery why outdoor stores do not carry this model, since it is not much heavier than stoves with separate liquid fuel bottles and much easier to use and control burner flame. It's a great stove for baking with the outback oven. ...
